A better frame, from a square avatar to a precise print.
Cropping decides which part of an image gets the attention. An avatar needs a different composition from a wide banner, and a print template adds exact dimensions to the decision. This workspace lets you set the frame, move the subject, rotate the image, and choose an export format before a local worker creates the final file. The preview mirrors the same centered transform used during export, so the controls describe a concrete composition rather than an abstract set of numbers.
Ratios, pixels, and physical dimensions
An aspect ratio describes shape rather than size. A square can be one hundred pixels wide or several thousand pixels wide and still have a one-to-one ratio. The square, landscape, classic photo, and portrait presets choose a frame based on the source dimensions. Fixed templates instead specify an output pixel count. The wide banner preset creates a 2,560 by 1,440 image, while the two-inch square print preset creates a 600 by 600 image at 300 dots per inch.
A DPI value connects a pixel count to a nominal physical print size; it does not create detail by itself. For the print presets, the encoder output is updated with actual density metadata in the JPEG header or PNG resolution chunk. The 35 by 45 millimeter template rounds its 300 DPI pixel dimensions to 413 by 531 pixels. Applications can choose to ignore density metadata, so verify both the pixel dimensions and the print settings in the software or service that will use the file.
Moving the image inside the frame
Drag the preview to pan the image, or use the horizontal and vertical position sliders when a more measured adjustment is easier. The canvas can also be focused and moved with arrow keys. Zoom changes how much of the source fills the frame, and rotation turns the image around its center. Horizontal flip mirrors the composition before it is painted into the rotated frame. A thirds grid provides a visual reference for placement without becoming part of the downloaded image.
Rotation and panning can expose areas outside the source image. That is sometimes useful for a transparent layout, but a photographic crop usually needs enough zoom to cover those corners. JPEG fills uncovered pixels with white because it cannot store transparency. PNG retains transparent areas. The tool does not automatically invent missing background or retouch a face. Inspect the edges and the subject after every substantial rotation, especially when a fixed print template needs a tightly controlled composition.
Export deliberately and keep the source
Changes to the preview are lightweight visual transforms. The full-resolution crop is created only when you choose to export, keeping continuous dragging and slider movement responsive. The resulting file reports its dimensions, byte size, and processing time. If a template is larger than the source, the interface warns that it is enlarging the image. Upscaling can satisfy an output dimension but cannot recover genuine detail that the original image did not contain.
A passport or visa preset is a geometry aid, not a certification service. Destinations can require particular head placement, lighting, background, expression, date of capture, minimum resolution, and file-size rules. Check the destination's current instructions before submitting a photograph. The cropper does not verify those conditions. Preserve your original, download the new crop as a separate file, and use the compressor afterward if you need a byte-size limit while retaining the required output dimensions.
Three steps. A finished file.
Choose the source and frame
Open a JPG, PNG, or WebP, then select an aspect ratio or fixed pixel and print template.
Adjust the composition
Pan, zoom, rotate, and flip while watching the preview. Keep the important subject inside the frame and inspect empty corners.
Create and save the crop
Choose JPG or PNG, create the full-resolution result in a worker, check its reported dimensions, and download a separate copy.
A little clarity.
Does the print preset write 300 DPI into the file?
Yes. Fixed print templates write the density into JPEG JFIF or PNG pHYs metadata, in addition to setting the intended pixel dimensions. Confirm the receiving application respects that metadata.
Can this certify a passport or visa photograph?
No. It sets geometry and resolution, but it does not verify identity-photo rules or guarantee acceptance. Check the destination's current requirements.
Why are there empty corners after rotation?
Rotating or panning can expose space beyond the original image. Zoom in to cover it, or preserve transparent corners with PNG if that is intentional.
