The details behind the tool

A Discord profile banner needs its own shape.

A profile banner and a server banner are different Discord assets. This page starts with an exact 680 by 240 pixel profile export, whose ratio is 17:6. It also offers a separate 960 by 540 server-banner preset at 16:9. Keeping those choices distinct prevents an attractive composition from being squeezed into the wrong frame before you even reach the platform's upload preview.

Use the pixel dimensions rather than an approximate ratio

The number 680 divided by 240 gives a much wider, shallower frame than 16:9. Treating those dimensions as a 16:9 standard would either distort the picture or crop the wrong amount. This preset paints into the exact 680 by 240 grid without stretching the subject. The source is scaled proportionally to cover the frame, and you choose which part remains visible through pan, zoom, rotation, and optional horizontal reflection.

If you are preparing a server banner instead, select its separate 960 by 540 preset in the same workspace. A profile composition may place a subject or lettering where a different interface overlaps it, so inspect the result in Discord's own upload preview. This tool does not assert a universal avatar safe zone or account entitlement. Platform features and displayed cropping can differ by profile context, device, and current product behavior.

Compose for a shallow frame

Begin with a source wide enough to leave breathing room around the important subject. A close vertical portrait can require substantial cropping to fill a short banner, and zooming in further removes even more context. Pan deliberately to decide what you want to preserve. Keep essential lettering away from fragile edges and compare it at a realistic on-screen size. A composition that is clear at full editing resolution can become difficult to read once placed into a narrow interface region.

The thirds grid is a composition aid, not part of the export. Rotation can help a horizon, but it can also expose empty corners where the source no longer covers the frame. Check those corners before creating the image. JPEG fills transparency with white, whereas PNG can preserve it; the receiving platform may composite that transparency differently. Choose the format and backing for the appearance you actually want rather than relying on the preview checkerboard as a final background.

Save a still banner and verify it in context

The output grid is fixed by the selected preset, independent of a print DPI label. Screen delivery is governed by pixels and platform display behavior rather than a nominal physical print size. A very small source can be enlarged to the required grid, but that does not invent genuine detail. Use the workspace's enlargement warning as a prompt to inspect sharpness, especially around text, line art, or a face that will be displayed close to other interface elements.

This workflow creates a still JPG or PNG, not an animated banner. It reports actual size and dimensions, and leaves the original file on your device. Check the saved banner inside the platform's current upload interface before replacing an existing asset. If the platform reports a byte-size problem, compress a delivery copy while preserving its required grid. Keep the original crop source so you can reframe for another profile layout or a server banner without repeatedly editing an already compressed export.

Three steps. A finished file.

  1. Choose the correct Discord asset

Open a JPG, PNG, or WebP. The 680×240 profile frame is selected; switch to the distinct 960×540 preset when creating a 16:9 server banner.

  2. Reframe without stretching the subject

Pan, zoom, and rotate within the shallow frame. Inspect important details at the intended display size and keep empty corners out of the composition.

  3. Create a still banner and check the upload preview

Export JPG or PNG, verify the actual pixel dimensions, and review the saved image in Discord's current interface before replacing a banner.

Useful answers before you export

A little clarity.

Is a 680×240 Discord banner 16:9?

No. It is 17:6 and is the profile-banner preset on this page. The separate server-banner preset is 960×540, which is 16:9. Choose the asset that matches the platform's upload context.

Can this Discord banner cropper export animation?

No. It creates a still JPG or PNG. Keep an animated original and use a dedicated frame-aware workflow if you need motion or animation timing.

Will this preset guarantee the same visible banner area on every device?

No. The file has the requested dimensions, but Discord's interface can display or overlap it differently across contexts and devices. Inspect the platform's own current upload preview.
